  1. In 2002 General election the numbers were:
    Rep: 42.3
    Dem: 34.5
    NPA: 22.3
    Other: 1.0
So the gap between Reps and Dems was 7.8%
For the 2008 Presidential Primary the numbers were:
    Rep: 38.9
    Dem: 33.5
    NPA: 26.1
    Other: 1.5
So both Dems and Reps lost ground to NPA and other.
The gap in 2008 was 5.4%
So though the trend in the invite was right the numbers are false. They overstated the gap in 2002 and understated the gap in 2008.
    They lied, imagine that.
BTW my numbers are from the Florida Department of Elections.

  2. I’m ready to vote for Lincoln Diaz-Balart for congress and donate to him and Mario and Ileana.

  3. Thanks for getting the numbers! I too will donate to him and Mario and Ileana. Thanks again and great work!

  4. I went to the Herald.com web site and have been reading all the comments about Joedilocks’s article about his upcoming fundraiser.
Every comment is positve and has the usual anti-Cuban-American comments…ugh!!!

  5. I’ll take that as a no then, Mr. Gomez. Can’t wait for the Obama-Castro-Chavez summit in Key Biscayne in 2010.Maybe Joe can play translator.

  6. Any Cuban-American politician who gets in bed with a Charles Rangel is beneath contempt and utterly discredited. There’s really no more to be said or discussed regarding Joe Garcia after this. Either Garcia is out of his mind or somebody’s dangling some serious goodies before him in exchange for this sort of infamy. And they say Bill Richardson sold out. Sheesh.

  7. Henry,
Joedilocks is committing political suicide here in South Florida among us.
If he thinks that he can embrace the likes of Rangel and company and still win in November, then he definitely lost his marbles.
Reality is that with this political move he has unmasked himself even more (I suspect that he’ll continue doing so) and will motivate even more the Cuban-Americans here to vote against him in November.
What I would like to see (maybe I’m dreaming too much) is for Jorge Mas Santos, Jose (Pepe) Hernandez and the rest of the CANF to stand up and publicly denounce him.
The worst mistake that Jorge Mas Santos did after his father Jorge Mas Canosa died was to hire Joedilocks to head the foundation and the results are obvious today.
    1. Diminished support from us Cuban-Americans in South Florida to the CANF.
    2. Huge loss of influence in Washington with the Bush administration at a critical time.
Let’s see how far Joedilocks will go with his political campaign making stupid moves like this.
I feel that he will continue digging himself the hole of the grave of his political campaign/career here in South Florida, and I couldn’t be any happier.

  8. I have to agree with Freedom. What does Garcia gain from a fundraiser with someone as toxic among Cuban-American voters as Charlie Rangel. The argument that is in the Herald about cozying up to the Chairman of Ways and Means as a way to bring dollars back to the district is really soft. Politically this is ass-backward. Win the race first and then show up at Rangel’s door and say: “Charlie, I just won where Democrats don’t ever win and I need your help raising money from your deep-pocket donors in New York.” By going to Rangel now he has really created a tailor-made issue to get Cuban-American voters in the district to the polls. Garcia doesn’t strike me as a stupid guy but this seems on its face to be one gigantic mistake. Does anyone have any idea what is behind this? Doesn’t he have a team of people advising him who understand the CA community? Is he having trouble raising money? Sorry for the questions but I’m not in South Florida and I’m not sure what the scuttlebutt is down there.

  9. This Rangel connection isn’t just stupid–it’s insane. He might as well cozy up to Michael Moore. I suppose he may be so desperate to be a player in the big leagues that he’ll do ANYTHING to get taken seriously by the Democratic hierarchy and wind up as some sort of “somebody” in it. Still, if he gets any more repellent, his only option will be to become an openly anti-exile shill for the usual suspects and vested interests.

  10. Mr.and Mrs. Kovner, Sarah, have long been identified with the liberal reform wing of the Democratic Party in Manhattan. I’m sure the usual “suspects” such as José Serrano, the R. J. Reynolds’ heirs, and Eli Pariser of MoveOn.org will be in attendance.
Here’s some background on Sarah Kovner :

She’s known as a veteran Democratic activist and fund raiser. Both she and her husband had a fundraiser in their home in New York for Christine Jennings in 2006, and who is once again running for the 13th District seat in Florida. She lost the elections in 2006 to her Republican opponent.
Mrs. Kovner was a U.S. delegate to the 1994 Cairo Conference on Population and Development and to the 1995 Beijing Fourth World Conference on Women (along with Hilary Clinton and Vilma Espin).
