For those who aren’t as familiar with Democrat congressional candidate Joe Garcia’s new best buddy Charles Rangel as I am here’s a primer:
As liberal commentator Nat Hentoff rightly pointed out, Charles Rangel is a guy who voted against a resolution in solidarity with Cuban dissidents who met peacefully in an Assembly to promote Civil Society in Cuba.
As only one of 22 members of the House who voted against it, Rangel dismissed the resolution as a call for regime change:
Rangel said the resolution would do nothing to improve U.S. Cuba relations or the lives of ordinary Cubans. “I don’t think it helps to be supporting insurgents overthrowing the government,” said Rangel. “It would be better,” he continued, “to try to reach out to the government to see what can be done to help both the government and people of Cuba, not just isolating them by dealing with dissidents.”
But the resolution is one that pretty much any clear-headed person can agree with.
Resolved, That the House of Representatives–
(1) extends its support and solidarity to the organizers and participants of the historic meeting of the Assembly to Promote the Civil Society in Cuba on May 20, 2005, in Havana;
(2) urges the international community to support the Assembly’s mission to bring democracy to Cuba;
(3) urges the Administration and international community to actively oppose any attempts by the Castro regime to repress or punish the organizers and participants of the Assembly; and
(4) shares the pro-democracy ideals of the Assembly to Promote the Civil Society in Cuba and believes that this Assembly and others will hasten the day of freedom and democracy for the people of Cuba.
And here’s more about Rangel from his own congressional web site.
I have been shocked and offended at the sight of people dancing in the streets over reports of President Fidel Castro’s serious illness. It is unseemly, and even un-American, to publicly wish for someone’s death.
The sad fact is that most of those dancing in the streets in Miami have never lived in Cuba themselves and are celebrating based on the stories of an angry and aging generation who left Cuba after the Cuban revolution and are the strongest proponents of the U.S. embargo.
What I couldn’t find by google searching his web site was a single result for “Human Rights” and “Cuba” on the same page.
Just the kind of guy you want to be indebted to for raising money for your campaign.
I’m going to enjoy watching Joedilocks self-immolate.
That’s easy: Charles Rangel is an enemy of the Cuban people. We have had to deal with him for years in our backyard Henry. Good points. I can’t believe Joe Rodrigo would come to Rangel’s district and accept his support knowing full well his stand and his lifelong defense of Cuba’s Castro. Rangel is a powerful congressman. He has another side to him. In the Civil Rights struggle he has been fighting for the roghts of African Americans and minorities. That’s undenieable. In the Cuban issue he has been a voice in defense of totalitarism and opression, making a case for Castro, being an advocate of the Communists that have destryed Cuba in half a century. He is a political enemy of Freedom Loving People. I wouldn’t be surprise if he becomes an apologyst for China in the Blood Olympics.
Take Care
Rafael
I will drink a celebratory toast when fidel castro dies. And again when that butt-plug in North Korea dies, when Jimmy Carter dies, and when Rangel dies. Just as I did when Saddam was executed. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Charlie Rangel can kiss my decidedly pro-American ass and hope for lockjaw.
Jack Daniel’s tastes so much better when I’m drinking to celebrate the death of someone who hates me and my country and has (had) power to act upon it.
Insurgents? Jesus.
