Cigar Mike Discovers America

This week I take you back to the great state of Nevada to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. It is part of the National Park System and is about 15 miles west of Las Vegas.
This area is more popular than Valley of Fire and is very touristy. Get there early and enjoy it before the crowds arrive. You can hike it and spend a day there or if you are pressed for time, you can drive the scenic loop road and spend a few hours here.
The sandstone walls are up to 3,000 ft The highest point in the park is La Madre Mountain, which is 8,154 ft
As far as I was concerned, the area near the visitor center was the most photogenic offering Joshua Trees and cacti as foreground anchors to the landscape.
Again, there are so many treasures all over the United States. Why kill yourself over the Euro. Why deal with anti Americans. Stay home and discover America. And ironically, you’ll see so many folks from the rest of the world doing the same. If it’s good enough for them, then by God, it should be good enough for you.
See you out in the field infidels.

  1. Are you going to go to the Badlands on your trip and get us some pictures there too? Kinda far from there, but what the hey…

  2. Thank you for these photos Cigar Mike. If it weren’t for these insane gas prices I’d be out somewhere in America as well. Do you have any photos of White Sands?

BTW, for those without a sense of humor who think this post has some serious meaning, lighten up.
I’ve never said folks should not visit foreign countries. What I am saying is that enough with the grass is always greener on the other side of the pond.
Folks ignore their own backyard that has the most amazing sights to see. The Grand Canyon for instance and all the national parks.
Those folks who were trying to rip my post as “typical conservative fare” are silly and probably think Monty Python is drama.
These are the type of folks that would have a wife that looks like Jessica Alba, and would prefer to sleep with the neighbor’s wife instead of appreciating what they’ve got.
    Go figure.
