We had three great days of Nostalgia, long days filled with many memorable moments. Our focus this year was promoting the Global Cuban Solidarity Movement, and collecting signatures for the Petition for the Release of Cuba’s Political Prisoners. Gyula’s stunning poster really captured our visitors attention, and helped with that effort.

One very memorable moment for me was the women, and I sorry I didn’t get her name, who stood looking at the likeness of Dr. Biscet in tears, and said, “I just love him, what can we do.” I didn’t know what to say to her. Words are not adequate to express the enormity of Dr. Biscet’s and the other political prisoner’s suffering on behalf of their people, or for the tragedy that is Cuba. But what we can do is express our solidarity, our support for their cause, and to let them know that they have not been forgotten. If you have not yet done so, please sign the petition, tell everyone you know about it, and ask them to sign as well.

  1. Ziva,
On everyone’s behalf’s I want to express our gratitude to you for all your efforts during this weekend Cuba Nostalgia.
I witnessed how you went out of your way to make sure that many people as possible would go and sign the petition to free the political prisoners in Cuba.
It was a pleasure to meet you and to know that we have such great friends like you on our side that care for our 49 years of struggle and support the cause of a free Cuba even thought you were not born in the island.
I can only hope and pray that one day in the near future the whole Babalu crew gets to celebrate Cuba Nostalgia together in a free Cuba without Communism and the Castro brothers.
Can’t wait for that day, that’ll be a party to remember.

  2. Ziva, ditto on both comments above. It was indeed a pleasure and an honor to meet you. Some day, hopefully very soon, we can all celebrate under a palm tree in varadero, sipping mojitos, and enjoying a FREE AND DEMOCRATIC Cuba. First round is on me!
