First it was the “Battle of Ideas” . . . now it seems to be the “Battle of Calculation.”
The regime’s foreign minister, Felipe Perez Roque has embarked upon a new public relations campaign to clean up Cuba’s tarnished image, pointing out that the island maintains diplomatic relations with 30 of the 32 Latin American and Caribbean countries. He went on to state:
1) Worldwide, Cuba has relations with 186 nations.
2) The island’s de-facto government serves as the leader of the Non-Aligned Movement.
3) Cuba has hosted some 30,000 students from 120 countries.
4) About 30,000 Cuban health workers are completing assignments in more than 70 countries.
Sigh. Sorry to have to say this Felipito but, when a nation finds it necessary to turn to number-crunching bullet points to defend itself on a weekly basis, something’s wrong. Like the crazy uncle that always has a new “get rich quick”scheme, Cuba’s overseers are always up to something new in the public relations arena. Problem is, no amount of PR campaigning can erase the egregious crimes committed against the people of that great land.
It’s a brand new dog and pony show, folks

Lets not forget that the Cuban Regime has added over 300 new jails to accommodate many thousands more of its citizens.
Henry,
Hmm, strange how they left out that little tidbit. LOL

Actually, when I originally wrote the post, I was going to draw up a similar press release – but for Nazi Germany. I just didn’t have enough time to look up 65-year-old stats. Busy day at work!
…BUT, the real sad thing is that some people, well, actually a big number of people, will believe this puke. Lookit, the whole world has been believing this Cuba utopia nonsense now for so long. I still get people telling me how great Cuba is even after I tell them that it’s not. I had a Colombian guy put in a new boiler at home and he couldn’t believe me when I told him that everything he believed about Cuba was a lie.
There seems to be a messed up force of nature or whatever that gives more power to the lies of the revolution rather than to the truths about 50 years of repression.
If they have relations with 186 countries , where is the embargo then ?
Well… felipito makes a good argument on why it’s not necessary to remove the embargo. In his own words:
1) Worldwide, Cuba has relations with 186 nations.
2) The island’s de-facto government serves as the leader of the Non-Aligned Movement.
3) Cuba has hosted some 30,000 students from 120 countries.
4) About 30,000 Cuban health workers are completing assignments in more than 70 countries.
Folks: Cuba is a master at ‘information warfare’, that is part of their staying-power. Totalitarian systems have always been good at it, while democracies are awful, reluctant practitioners. It truly is a battlefield of the ‘mind’, and the one most adept at manipulating it among the ignorant and uninformed, will be the victor. You can see it play out within our own country. When you control the media, hollywood, and academia, you are in the drivers seat for spreading your belief system, no matter if the majority of the info dessiminated are lies or distortions, the more they spread them, the better it is for the ‘bad’ guys. On the other hand, truth has its own power, but it must be constantly driven home. Until we undertsnad where the real fight is today, and how to win it, we’ll be ‘sucking hind tit’ and hoping for miracles.
