Babalu reader Andy A. just sent me the beautiful photograph of Viñales above. Cuban natives have not been allowed here for some time and Im not sure whether raul’s latest magnanimous gesture of allowing everyday Cubans to enter tourist areas covers this incredibly beautiful and inspiring area.
Plenty of youtubery from tourists that visit Viñales.
It reminds me of my dad, who’s been gone a short while but who died unable to return and see the sight. He spent four decades here always dreaming of the day he’d gone back home to his native province.
Thanks for posting the shot. It is a unique place.
In a recent blog about Howard Anderson, executed by the Castro regime, I mentioned the fact that he was tried and held in Pinar del Rio province. In my search for a photo to use, I found one of the Vinales Valley. I had no idea that the beautiful place had been off limits. My selection of the photo seems even more poignant now.
Thanks for the post.
