Cyberthugs in castrolandia

As many of you know, Yoani Sanchez the intrepid Cuban blogger who was recently named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people came onto our radar screens a few months ago. Since then she’s written many posts that expose the reality of life in the “worker’s paradise”. In addition to the attention she has attracted from folks like us and the mainstream media she has also attracted the attention of the regime’s cyberthugs.

Take a look at some of the comments that have been left on a recent post at her blog, Generacion Y:

lolita como saliste de jineta o te mandaron a buscar en europa hay muchas casa de alterne

lolita la revolucionaria…. se casò con un viejo lleno de babita…

Yoani te pasastes de la raya..llama a Montaner o Negroponte..a ver si te van ayudar

In addition to the obvious fact that there are animals out there that defend castro, inc. to the point where they need to attack a woman that probably weighs no more than 95lbs and is armed with nothing more than a laptop and USB flash drive, this demonstrates how much damage Yoani is doing to the regime.

As you can see from Yoani’s post, she has designed for herself a t-shirt with the words Generacion Y on it. Needless to say wearing a t-shirt like that could be considered an act of “dangerousness” in Cuba under raul the munificent, granter of cell phones and toaster ovens (in two years).

We admire Yoani and pray to God to keep her safe.

  1. Henry,

I’ve been thinking about Yoani’s situation for quite some time now. I, like probably all of us, worry that she may eventually be targeted for a violent “acto de repudio.” This got me thinking.

Those in the regime need to understand that should they harm a single hair on this young woman’s head, there will be consequences.

I don’t think the Cuban government types should feel their embassy officials should be safe in the wake of any reprisals against Yoani or other bloggers, etc. on the island who are acting completely peacefully.

Bottom line: these people need to understand that THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES.I’m just not sure what those consequences can or should be.

  2. Note however that the Lolita comments are directed at another person leaving comments – not Yoani.

As for the third comment – I think that speaks for itself.

  3. CubaWatch,

The lolita comments DO refer to Yoani.

They are attacking her for being married to man who is significantly older than her and they also reference her time living in Europe.

  4. Could you please translate the Spanish (if you have time)? Also, let’s start producing our own “Generacion Y” t-shirts and wearing them in solidarity with Yoanni. Here’s another idea: let’s wear them and have a counter-demonstration to the Cuban 5 people – they are planning demonstrations in major cities. What do you think?

  5. Here’s the English:

lolita how did you get out of whoring or did they send you abroad to look for some in Europe where there are a lot of brothels

    lolita the revolutionary….married a drooling old man…

Yoani you colored outside the lines..call Montaner or Negroponte…to see if they’ll help

About t-shirts I don’t know if it’s such a great idea. Ideally the folks who maintain her server would design such a shirt and sell it and have the funds go to her. It’s up to them and her.

  6. Lolita is what whores are called in Spain.
So we have to assume that the insults come from un Hijo de perra Español ?
    Que los hay los hay.
