The left in all its glory

If Babalu readers want to understand why I despise modern leftist/liberals so much, why I think they are the scum of the earth, why I think they are despicable douchebags, watch this video. It’s another riff on the Hurricane Gustav theme started by Michael Moore:

This is the former National Chairman of the Democratic National Committee Don Fowler and Congressman John Spratt of South Carolina. Let RedState tell you more:

On a plane from Denver to Charlotte following the Democrats’ convention, I found myself seated behind former National Chairman of the Democratic National Committee Don Fowler and Congressman John Spratt of South Carolina. Their conversation was interesting to say the least.

For example, they made fun of Sarah Palin for several minutes, Fowler calling her “Dan Quayle” on steroids and Spratt creatively describing her as “just terrible.” They both agreed that, “Other than the simple fact that she’s a female,” she has nothing to offer.

[…]

[I}t’s funny. That New Orleans will get a hurricane. That’s funny because it is due to hit when President Bush is scheduled to speak. Isn’t that cool? Fowler isn’t the only one who thinks so, just ask Michael Moore.

We all know Democrats used and use Katrina as a political football as callously as possible. Here’s a candid moment showing some can hardly wait for another one.

All Class.

  1. Like I’ve said repeatedly, these folks wouldn’t object to doom, death and destruction if it benefits them politically. The left and the Dems always put their party first over the Country. No doubts about it.

  2. The comments are despicable even if they’re said in a joking manner. Just like Rev. Hagee’s remarks were despicable when he talked about Katrina.
But if we’re going to paint all Dems in a broad brush, well then what does that say about Republicans based upon the actions of Larry Craig?

  3. Rick,

The problem with you is that you always fail to see the forest for the trees.

There’s a vast deal of difference between lewd conduct in a men’s bathroom (a behavior that everyone at Babalu.blog condemned) and wishing ill on the citizens of the Gulf Coast -and laugh about it- while commenting “God is on OUR side.”

Typical of Democrats… What’s a few dead people if it advances THEIR cause. Sick, sick, sick!

  4. But if we’re going to paint all Dems in a broad brush, well then what does that say about Republicans based upon the actions of Larry Craig?

    a) As disgusting as the Larry Craig tapdancing show was, at least he wasn’t rejoicing over the political upside of another possible hurricane massacre in New Orleans.

    b) Craig not only got no support from anyone here at Babalu, he didn’t get it from anyone anywhere in the GOP. Barney Frank, on the other hand, was and is to this day portrayed as a martyr by the Dems. Both are a reflection of a general pattern of the major parties’ reaction to depraved behavior among their own. (See also: Foley/Clinton, Packwood/Kennedy, etc)

Point is that Michael Moore will not be condemned by Dems but celebrated or at least tolerated, whereas he would be tarred and feathered by the GOP if he was a conservative and said such things.

  5. Fuck Fowler. This is disgusting. When I got the e-mail from RedState.com I was horrified. Body bags mean nothing to them – if they are from Iraq or N.O. I won’t let pass anymore judgement – I’ll let God do that. Then he’ll find out if God is on his side…

  6. But if we’re going to paint all Dems in a broad brush, well then what does that say about Republicans based upon the actions of Larry Craig?

Actually, we do need something a lot bigger than a brush, since the vast majority of Democrats think that way.

  7. Actually, we do need something a lot bigger than a brush, since the vast majority of Democrats think that way.

    And the proof is….where?

Firefly, there is a vast difference in the conduct but no difference in judging an entire political party by the actions of a few. Is it fair to say that Republicans are hypocritical homosexuals? Hell, no. Just as it’s wrong to say that Dems are “scum of the Earth” because one of them made some asinine and idiotic comments about the hurricane.

And who is condoning the remarks of this idiot? Who has come forward to support him?

Each side has it’s share of idiots and it’s a huge waste of time to play a game of “gotcha” every time one opens its mouth. You could devote a daily blog to Ann Coulter alone. BTW, has she been kidnapped? Has someone muzzeled her until the election is over?

Look, nothing is funny about a hurricane that has the potential to kill people. Nothing is funny about using a hurricane to score political points. Republicans don’t have the corner on those beliefs, despite what conservative extremists seem to think.

  8. Rick:

First, stop putting paragraph tags in your comments, okay? TypeKey doesn’t require them. All you need is two hard returns and you have a new paragraph. Easy, right?

Second, my extremely accurate description of Democrats (and the Democrat-controlled media) comes from many years of watching your ilk make the most outrageous statements against those they disagree with. As Cuban-Americans we have been maligned, slandered, libeled, and insulted by tolerant, compassionate liberals just like you who, I might add, is the first to post scandalous items on your blog when it suits the point you are making. So you, your fucking party, and your media, can take your sanctimonious bullshit and shove it right up your collective asses. My gloves have been off for years and they’ll stay off. Fucking prick.

  9. I’ll try to back up George without the profanity – I completely understand his frustration though. Larry Craig tapdances in a bathroom and it is wall to wall coverage, as if the fate of western civilization hung on the balance. Don Fowler yucks it up about people getting killed in N.O. and if not for RedState.com, Drudge and Babalu, I would not have heard about it.

Craig was/is a scumbag and hypocrite but his actions hurt no one but himself. Fowler’s comments dispayed a callousness that poked fun at the misfortune of others – that’s worse. Even if you can’t prosecute it.

  10. Why is it so difficult for SOME liberals to just come out and say, “Fowler is an insensitive jerk for what he said and we should ALL condemn it”, without having to dig back and find some equivalence in a remark said or deed committed by a conservative months or years ago?

Yes, I realize some conservatives play the same game, but we know this game of “gotcha” usually goes nowhere.

Unfortunately, too many people lack the courage to admit when “their own” do or say something stupid without making excuses or pointing out unrelated faults in others.

Stupid is as stupid does, and those who try to excuse it or point the finger in the other direction fit that description to a tee.

  11. I lean left and I find this to be pretty terrible/disgusting. Shame on them. However, this certainly doesn’t represent every left person. Just like off-color comments from 1 or 2 republicans don’t represent all conservatives out there.

  12. Let me distill the main point for Rick and others. My apologies in advance for the use of block caps — it’s not done out of anger, just a desire to make the point as clear as possible.

Yes, Rick and others, it is true that a few kooks doing/saying stupid things does not IN AND OF ITSELF reflect on every Democrat. Any group of people larger than about one or two will have such fools in them.

What DOES reflect badly on every Democrat and leftist is the way the leftist politicians, pundits and media types either CELEBRATE, TOLERATE OR AT LEAST IGNORE this behavior when it’s a Democrat, while in contrast, the GOP pols, pundits and media types consistently immediately condemn and throw their own fools overboard.

The difference is not the fact that there are fools or nuts in your group. Every group has them. The difference is in what you DO about them. If you are a Democrat and throw a screaming fit over Larry Craig but celebrate Barney Frank, then you are nothing but braindead political cheerleader.

PS – I use paragraph tags because at least on my computer, the preview shows no paragraph breaks at all.

  13. George: So I agree that the guy is a jerk but I caution against stereotyping an entire political party as a bunch of scumbags and that causes a tantrum?
Dude, you must be a joy to drive with in Miami. With a temper like yours, you must almost kill people 10 times a day. Seek help or counseling or something, bro.
Okay, I’m willing to try not using the paragraph breaks.

This line is being typed after hitting the enter twice after that last sentence.
This line is being typed after using a paragraph break. Let’s see what happens.

  14. Zhangliqun: Exactly about the paragraph breaks. The preview doesn’t pick them up.

Oh c’mon, Zhangliqun, righties tolerate fools like Hagee and that idiot that was praying for rain at the Obama speech all the time. And I didn’t hear anyone taking the guy who was selling the racist buttons at the GOP convention in Texas to task either. It’s the same for both sides.

Who is celebrating the behavior of this jerk on the plane? I don’t hear anyone laughing along with this piece of crap. Hell, I come to an extreme right website and condemn it and get cursed at and told I didn’t condemn it the right way. I mean, when is it good enough for folks like you? Or is it ever?

  15. Rick,

We’re not so a extreme right website (and understanding this fact might be part of your problem) as you might think.

The painful truth is that Larry Craig got nothing to do with the comment on this specific post and you trying to deflect the point some individuals are trying to make here about Don Fowler’s very stupid comments.

And they’re really stupid let me tell you.

The moment you focus on Don Fowler’s action you should realize that Larry Craig should not be part of this discussion, Don Fowler should be.

Unfortunately by you not understanding the point that others are trying to make on this post you’re catching flak from all over the place.

There should be no is not excuse whatsoever in comparing Larry Craig or Hagee actions to what Don Fowler has done, period, as you’re comparing apples to oranges.

Please understand that fact, as we’re not that stupid here to fall for the deflection blame comment that you’re trying to place here to distract us from the discussion at hand.
