Che,” the story of a failed revolutionary, also fails as a film.

Another rotten tomato thrown at Soderbergh’s Che. This time from the Detroit News:

Steven Soderbergh’s “Che” arrives locally this week playing as one 4½-hour film. Next week it will be playing as two 2-plus hour films. Either way, it’s a sure-fire cure for insomnia…
…Che skips a few years and takes a shot at liberating Bolivia, which doesn’t seem to want liberation nearly as bad as Cuba. Things don’t work out so well there, with Che accomplishing nothing before finally being executed. Bad career move.
Then again, that holds true for the entire film…
In fact, if ever a film lacked heat, it’s this one.
There’s obviously some sort of idea behind all this, but whatever it is, it’s neither apparent nor appropriate.
