Practice what you preach

According to the AP, Nancy Pelosi got lectured by Pope Benedict XVI on her pro-abortion stand during their meeting at the Vatican. Pelosi, who proclaims to be a practicing Catholic, has been a staunch supporter of abortion in defiance of the Church’s pro-life stance.

What I find interesting, however, is what the Pope told her according to the remarks released by the Vatican from their meeting.

The Vatican released remarks by the pope to Pelosi, saying Benedict spoke of the church’s teaching “on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death.” That is an expression often used by the pope when expressing opposition to abortion.

The remark falls right in line with what the Catholic church teaches, but not necessarily to what it practices when it comes to Cuba. Where was the concern for the dignity of human life from conception to natural death when Cardinal Bertone visited Cuba last year? With Cuba’s unbelievably high abortion rate and the regime’s blatant torture and murder of tens of thousands of Cubans, one would think that Cardinal Bertone would have something else to say other than to heap praise on the dictatorship.

It seems the Pope needs to give himself, and his Cardinals, a lecture, too.

  1. I could say something, actually a lot, but it’d be pretty much like shooting fish in a barrel. The Vatican has blown it so badly so many times when it comes to Cuba that it’s basically redundant (though perfectly justified) to point it out yet again. It’s all part of a longstanding pattern. Mas de lo mismo.
