The Truth Behind the Dems’ “Carbon Tax” & “Renewable Energy”

Happy Thursday infidels.   As further evidence that our President was bullshitting the American People when he said he would cut taxes on 95% of all Americans,  his budget and demand for a carbon tax demonstrates that what Ceasar gives with one hand, he takes away with the other.

His $ 13 dollar a week payroll tax cut is technically a tax cut which applies to most folks except those earning in excess of 6 figures.  (Which includes a lot of folks that aren’t “wealthy” by  the way).   But what this carbon tax will do is increase the costs of gasoline, natural gas, electricity — you name it way in excess of the $ 13 dollar a week payroll tax cut.  A $2 per gallon increase in gas alone will cost you between $ 26 and $ 40 per week which is not a pipe dream with this carbon tax.   But the liberal pot smoking wankers will say,  “we need this to fight global warming …. carbon is bad.  We need renewable energy like solar, wind, and hydro.”   You notice that these uppity liberals never mention “nuclear.”  You see folks, nuclear power, especially the breeder type reactors which are used in “France” provide a safe, cheap, and carbonless means of energy.  But instead of creating tax incentives for power companies to build more of these modern type of nuclear plants (note that most plants in the US today are 30+ years old) — they want to sell the US on this high tech wind power; solar power.  While it sounds good. It’s a bunch of bullshit.  Something called economies of scale.   The amount of capital that it takes to generate one megawatt of energy using wind or solar is greeater than the amount of energy it generates. As noted by Robert Bryce:

The latest data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration show that total solar and wind output for 2008 will likely be about 45,493,000 megawatt-hours. That sounds significant until you consider this number: 4,118,198,000 megawatt-hours. That’s the total amount of electricity generated during the rolling 12-month period that ended last November. Solar and wind, in other words, produce about 1.1% of America’s total electricity consumption

Bryce is right on the money here and demonstrates the fallacy of the Dem’s  argument saying that this “renewable energy” that will be created by this tax will ease our dependence on foreign oil and fossil fuels:

The conversion of electricity into oil terms is straightforward: one barrel of oil contains the energy equivalent of 1.64 megawatt-hours of electricity. Thus, 45,493,000 megawatt-hours divided by 1.64 megawatt-hours per barrel of oil equals 27.7 million barrels of oil equivalent from solar and wind for all of 2008.

Now divide that 27.7 million barrels by 365 days and you find that solar and wind sources are providing the equivalent of 76,000 barrels of oil per day. America’s total primary energy use is about 47.4 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Of that 47.4 million barrels of oil equivalent, oil itself has the biggest share — we consume about 19 million barrels per day. Natural gas is the second-biggest contributor, supplying the equivalent of 11.9 million barrels of oil, while coal provides the equivalent of 11.5 million barrels of oil per day. The balance comes from nuclear power (about 3.8 million barrels per day), and hydropower (about 1.1 million barrels), with smaller contributions coming from wind, solar, geothermal, wood waste, and other sources.

Here’s another way to consider the 76,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day that come from solar and wind: It’s approximately equal to the raw energy output of one average-sized coal mine.

So the libs and the extremist Al Gore types again scream, “global warming”.   It’s a ruse folks.   This is simply a clandestine way to tax you more (not just the so called “wealthy” — but even the regular hourly laborer who has to get to work in his car.  The senior citizen who on a fixed income has to pay for heating or cooling and who ends up shutting everything down because he or she cannot afford the electric bill.   So absent the Prez deciding to go Hugo Chavez on us by trying to nationalize the energy companies or by creating price controls on energy,  our consumption of carbon based fuels will be the same.  The reduction in man-made  greenhouse gas emissions will be minor at best,  but this tax will continue. And especially in a difficult economic period, it will further drive the economy into the toilet.  Why would the Dems want this? It’s clear infidels.  If the Dems can continue to drive industry into the toilet, it will give them the perfect excuse to “nationalize” the industry for the “greater welfare” of the country.  You’ve been warned!

Read Mr. Bryce’s article here and send it your liberal friends. Maybe they’ll learn something for a change.
