How noble! How wonderful! (Updated)

And Oscar Elias Biscet continues to rot in prison.

Trading their warmest words in a half-century, the United States and Cuba built momentum toward renewed ties on Friday, with President Barack Obama declaring he “seeks a new beginning”—including direct talks—with the island’s communist regime.

As leaders of the Americas gathered for a summit in this Caribbean nation, the head of the Organization of American States even said he’ll ask his group to invite Cuba back after 47 years.

In remarks kicking off the weekend gathering of nations—of which Cuba was the only country in the region not represented—Obama repeated the kind of remarks toward the Castro regime that marked his campaign for the presidency.

“The United States seeks a new beginning with Cuba,” he said at the Summit of the Americas opening ceremony, according to his remarks released in advance by the White House. “I know there is a longer journey that must be traveled in overcoming decades of mistrust, but there are critical steps we can take toward a new day.”

Analysts cautioned that the week’s developments were encouraging but do not necessarily mean normalized relations are around the corner.

“This is a thaw, but it’s a thaw that’s going to take some time,” said Michael Shifter of the Inter-American Dialogue in Washington. “I wouldn’t look for any dramatic breakthroughs. There’s a lot of distrust.”

Hold on to your dinner:

  1. I’m seeing a definite difference in height …

Where’s the double-handed shake and “stoop-down” like he did for Lord Farquaad of Arabia?

  2. he didn’t bow and kiss his hand? almost as revolting as when clinton and fudel shook hands in ny!!

  3. This “friendly hand shake was in lieu of Obama’s “fist bump” … to avoid any similarity with the “raised fist” salute commonly used by socialists . . . I’m sure the Office of Protocol instructed Obama about sending “mixed signals” … Yeah! 😉

I wish you well 🙂 Melek

  4. You know I expected this, and know in my heart it is going to get a lot worse, because let’s face it. Our president is a commie lovin, America hating, dictator fawning, appeasing, “I just want everyone to like me,” puke inducing swine.

So knowing all that, why is this so hard to take?

  5. I know I said I was going to remain respectful and not call him names. Not if he’s going to bow to Arabs, shake hands with the monkey, and especially not if he’s willing to talk to a castro. He deserves to rot in hell with every other collaborator. I don’t care how many votes he got.

  6. Upon seeing that ’70s soul-brother shake’, did anyone else puke all over their fresh-shined shoes? I know I did.

Wasn’t that heart warming? Yeah. I’m weepy.

Make no mistake, these are signals, not at all casual gestures. Bowing to King Saud-a-lazeech, showing the middle finger during debates, now this soul-power shake with sock-monkey Ooogoo, these are signals.

Our enemies see these signals as a green light, just surely as they see the sham homeland security report as a hit list on all decent Americans.

    Expect more of this.

  7. Ziva, Humberto, firefly and Mr. Zecchino,

You’ll right on with your comments.

I’m very afraid the route that this bullshit anti-American Marxist “Messiah” is heading this country trying to separate it from its Judeo-Christian values, embracing our enemies and surrendering our values to them while bankrupting our economic with ineffective socialist measures.

I’m more certain than ever that we’re all going to pay a very painful price, but what I’m more afraid is that fact that not enough Americans are realizing this situation quick enough to try to prevent the hell coming to us.

Like firefly said there is going to be so much shit to shovel after this bullshit artist is out of the White House that is going to take generations of Americans to complete (if ever) the clean-up.

  8. Chavez: “greetings, comrade Obama.”

Obama: “Man, it’s great to finally meet you, Billy Ayers has told me such wonderful things about you. Give my regards to Alfonso Cano. Speaking of, those FARC laptops were a real buzzkill, eh? Good thing for me I don’t have to worry about opposition from the media here like you do down there. Say, how’s about we hold the next Sao Paulo Forum meeting at Camp David?”
