The effects of the Juanes concert

Juanes wanted his concert to have a profound effect on the lives of Cubans, and it appears that he achieved this goal. Thanks to his seemingly boundless goodwill, Miscelaneasdecuba.net is reporting that 100 Cuban dissidents were rounded up, warned, threatened, and/or detained to ensure they would not disturb the “peace” of the “Peace without Borders” concert.

THE JUANES CONCERT IN HAVANA BRINGS ABOUT THE DETENTION OF MORE THAN SIXTY DISSIDENTS BY THE POLICE

100 dissidents were prohibited with warnings, threats, and detentions by Cuban State Security from attending the Juanes concert held at La Plaza de la Revolución this past Sunday, the 20th of September.

The majority of the arrests took place in Havana. Some 40 activists, dissidents, journalists, and librarians were detained in their homes and ordered to remain there for many hours. Several operations were carried out by State Security in all the municipalities of the capital city.

According to sources, the homes of the dissidents were visited in the early hours of morning or days before to ensure they would not participate in the macro concert that featured international stars such as Olga Tañon, Juanes, Miguel Bosé, Víctor Manuel, Orichas, among others.

Gee, thanks Juanes. You really shouldn’t have.

  1. And supposedely he is now complaining about the security, etc. he was subjected to. That really pisses me off. He talked about all his Cuban friends in Miami, none of them mentioned the dictator?

  2. Uh, sorry, concert’s over, and there’s always collateral damage, no? In any case, Juanes is now planning his next propaganda, I mean publicity, I mean humanitarian gig, probably at the US-Mexico border or some such. Can’t worry about Cubans now–that’s like, SO last weekend…

  3. let see ‘im come to the TX border…..if he has the nuts to do it: the Mexican cartel is NOT the only outfit armed to the teeth around here, girlyman

  4. And how is Yoani Sanchez? Very well thank you! She really enjoyed the concert. Unlike those that were rounded up days before and placed under house arrest.
