Those dumbass Republicans

Conventional liberal wisdom (yes, I know–liberal wisdom is an oxymoron) states that Republicans are just a bunch of dumbasses. They are stupid, uneducated, uninformed, idiotic knuckle draggers that populate the bottom rungs of the evolutionary ladder. They lack the intellectual abilities of their liberal counterparts in the Democratic party and therefore not only are their opinions wrong, they should not even be allowed to express them.

If all of this were true, and Republicans/conservatives are such a bunch of dumbasses, what does that make liberals/Democrats who managed to score lower in all but one topic of a knowledge poll just released by the Pew Research Center?

1378-5

If conservatives are knuckle draggers, they should be careful not to drag their knuckles through the pond scum that liberals seem to be.

  1. We think you’re stupid because you correlate knowledge of Glen Beck being a radio host to intelligence, something this blog is deliriously lacking.

  2. Daniel:

Thank you for proving the point of the poll.

Try reading past the first line, you may learn something. At least as much as a creature that resides below “knuckle draggers” can be expected to learn.

We know it’s a challenge for your type, so we’re willing to cut you some slack.

  3. Those numbers are actually pathetic for both sides …

The movie “Idiocracy” was apparently a prophetic documentary

  4. I agree with Mojito … but I would also have to say that the questions about Beck and the Dow don’t really fit in. The one about Beck is biased to favor conservatives (if it had to be asked, then it should have been balanced with a question about Dowd or Krugman or someone like that) and the one about the Dow is just too arbitrary.

  5. Alberto de la Cruz, one of Babalu’s dimmer bulbs, apparently has been feeling particularly low on wattage lately because it was with great pomp and circumstance that he declared on Saturday that Republicans have finally been proven to be of superior intellect. He based this profound [at least for him] statement on the fact that a recently released Pew News IQ Project quiz determined that Republicans scored higher than Democrats when it comes to news knowledge. Here’s Al…

Not to throw cold water on Alberto’s Happy Dance, but Pew’s sampling consisted of…

…1,002 adults reached on cell phones and landlines, asked 12 multiple choice questions about people, events and issues in the news.

Okay, so I realize they couldn’t call everyone in the United States but just 1,002 people? On cell phones?

And what were the questions and the “partisan differences of knowledge?”

Jeepers, who would have guessed that more Republicans would know who Glenn Beck is? That’s a shocker. Or that Democrats have a House majority? Anyone who listens to Rush…oh, nevermind.

Admittedly, Republicans do seem to be paying a lot more attention to Fox News and conservative talk radio than Democrats. And for that, I suppose I should tip my hat to them. But personally, I would have added these questions to the quiz just to make it a little tougher for the conservative quiz takers…
