While I have many, many things to be thankful for – a wonderful family, great friends that surround me, this great Babalu family, a wonderful wife and in all, a pretty darned good life – today I am especially grateful to God for granting me the parents that I have. Not just for their having been the best parents ever and for their unconditional love and support my entire life, but for the one decision, the one sacrifice they made in their life that has made all the difference in mine.

Thank you Mom and Dad for believing in freedom. Thank you for going through everything that you went through so your son and daughter would not only learn the true meaning of freedom, but grow up basking in it.

That one decision to leave everything you had known and loved in your entire life has made all the difference in mine and my sister’s lives and the generations that have come after us. By bringing us to the land of freedom, you gave us everything.

I thank God that because of my parents, I am an American and live in the Untied States of America, the greatest country in the world and in history.

And I would be remiss if I did not thank those Americans who wont be able to spend this day with their families, who make the sacrifices and put themselves in harm’s way so that I can spend this special day with mine.

Thank you and may God bless this beautiful, bountiful Land of the Free.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂 Melek

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” ~ M. Beattie

  2. Amen to that Val,

We must thanks our parents for all the sacrifices they made to bring us to live in the USA, the greatest country on earth.

I wish a Happy Thanksgiving to everyone at Babalu as we have much to be thankful for even in these difficult times.

  3. YES SIR! AMEN, amen and amennn!
We are fortunate to live in the greatest Nation on this Gods Green Earth.
As my sister Ziva says before me…..”GOD BLESS AMERICA, AND ALL WHO SUSTAIN HER”.

  4. Oh Val, what a beauuutiful thought, thank YOU!!

Yes, I too marvel at the wonderful parents God gave me, who left their own families, some who they never saw again, just so that I could grow up in freedom. Both my parents are gone now, but of the many great virtues they passed on to me, is the blessing of being able to feel and express gratitude.

When my parents first learned about the American custom of Thanksgiving, they thought that it was the most awesome and magnanimous tradition they had ever heard of, and it took them no time to participate in the festivities like any other pilgrims. They were so deeply grieved for what happened to their lives and country, but they knew God had a plan for them in this the best nation in the whole world, and for that they thanked Him fervently.

America, America, God shed His grace on thee…!
