  1. Humberto, thanks for bringing this exellent article.
With out Pinochet’s actions ,Chile would have been another Cuba or Albania.

    Long live Augusto Pinochet.!!

    saludos

  2. Augusto stands head and shoulders above anything ever seen in Latin Amrica (and the World). What he did for Chile is immeasurable, its a shame to see the way the MSM treats the memory of this great man. Chile is an economic powerhouse today (despite all the socialist governments that followed) because of Pinochet and the Chicago Boys anyone who says different is probably a pinko socialist or an absolute moron.

  3. Cato, lets not get carried away here and compare Pinochet to George Washington. Pinochet also “broke a few eggs” to stop a Soviet take over, and although yes we agree with his motives, we should also not be so easy to back similar tactics to those that we dispise when the leftist thugs use them.

The following passage is from Thor Halvorssen, president of the Human Rights Foundation, writing in the Conservative National Review (not a Commie rag):

“He (Pinochet) shut down parliament, suffocated political life, banned trade unions, and made Chile his sultanate. His government disappeared 3,000 opponents, arrested 30,000 (torturing thousands of them) … Pinochet’s name will forever be linked to the Desaparecidos, the Caravan of Death, and the institutionalized torture that took place in the Villa Grimaldi complex.”

  4. Mojito,if you find a place, country or region in this planet in wich the goal of freedom has been done without small or bigs mistakes, please,by all means show it to me.

Augusto Pinochet and La Junta Militar did what,at that moment got to be done. With big achievements and mistakes, with more than half of the world against it,with the ex USSR,Cuba and the whole communists rats in this planet against it.

Among those victims were communists, were lefties that in one way or other supported the already unconstitutional govermment of Allende, were terrorists, and of course, innocents also were in that list of victims.

All you got to do is think, on one hand you have the 3ooo disappeard,by the way, some of those are living a good life in Norway,Mexico,Canada and Sweden, just read El Mercurio, chilean newspapaer about the fraud done by some of those “disappeared”,also the “suffocated” political life, although anyone could leave if he or she didn’t like the regime,no question asked, and the mistakes made by the top brass of the Junta and subordinates, and on the other hand if Allende would have made it with his agenda of “autogolpe”,and the communists, socialists got in power, you would have a Chile with about 14 millions of state property inhabitants,or modern slaves,an economy in shambles, the values of society and familiy gone through the toilet, and a Latinamerica “different” or worst of what we have now.

Pick wish one is the best side. And at that moment,it wasn’t a “third option” at hand.

    saludos

  5. Mojito, no Augusto Pinochet was not George Washington, but in APs defense Chile was in a state of war during the time 85% of those 3,000 reds and pinkos met their maker.
George Washington had spies and deserters executed what do Human rights group say abut that?
Do not get me wrong I am no fan of dictators but neither am I enamored with democracy (see Chavez, Morales, Kishner, Frei, Bachelet, Correa, Obama, Bush, Ortega, etc etc etc)and its mostly suspect results.
In hindsight Augusto did a great job and saved many many lives, unlike his Argetine counter parts the Chlean econmy improved exponentially under his watch and he correctly stepped down rather than maintain his grip on power. Haven’t seen any lefty dictators do anything remotely similar.
