Seven Prisoners Refuse Forced Deportation

Via Capitol Hill Cubans:

Seven Prisoners Refuse Forced Deportation

Havana-based blogger Claudia Cadelo has reported, via Twitter, that three of the 52 Cuban political prisoners that the regime has “agreed” to release in the coming months have expressed that they will not leave prison, if they are to be forcibly deported to Spain.

The three prisoners — Pedro Arguelles Moran, Eduardo Diaz Fleitas and Regis Iglesias Ramirez — are demanding that their release be unconditional.

UPDATE: Laura Pollán, leader of the Ladies in White, told the BBC that four more prisoners have refused to leave the island, including Jesús Mustafá Felipe, Oscar Elías Biscet, José Daniel Ferrer and Arnaldo Ramos Lauzerique.

  1. Wow! That would really pull the rug out from under Moratino’s and the church’s cowardly, vicious and treacherous negotiation to extend the tyranny by getting rid of the opposition!

I pray to God that all of them refuse forced deportation in exchange for release from jail! I pray to God that they have the courage to stay steady!

As that article posted from independent journalist recommends, the dissidents can retain control of the situation if they continue to protest and not accept this dastardly negotiated betrayal.

  2. Such bravery! So much rests on the shoulders of these brave people. I don’t understand such courage.
    God bless them.

  3. I was wondering who would take a stand. It would be castro’s plan to “free” these people from himself by basically forced deportation.
Leave it to Biscet and the other real dissidents to take the painful though correct stance.

  4. It goes without saying that all these prisoners and their families are undergoing and will continue to undergo some very serious, uh, persuasion (behind the scenes, obviously) to do the “wise” thing. Same as what happened with Elian’s father. Anybody who doesn’t realize that either doesn’t get it or doesn’t want to.

  5. Now is the time to do all you can to publicize these brave people and what they are willing to suffer rather than be forced into exile by the Castros. They are telling the thugs, you don’t set the rules, we do.
Write letters to the editor, send things around to congress people. Keep this issue alive and noisy about Biscet, etc.

  6. This is exiciting news. Prisoners like Biscet are Cubas real heros. Viva Zapata! Viva Biscet! Viva Cuba Libre!

  7. Out of all the political prisoners in Cuba I hold the most respect for Dr. Oscar Elías Biscet.
