The manipulation being carried out on Cuban prisoners of conscience by Cardinal Jaime Ortega on orders from the Cuban dictatorship continues. Sigler Amaya has obtained a humanitarian visa from the US to come here and receive medical treatment for the barbaric damage done to his body by Castro thugs during his 7 years in prison, but the Cuban regime has refused to give him an exit permit to leave the island.
On apparent orders from the regime, Cardinal Ortega has contacted the family and proposed that Sigler Amaya and his family travel instead to Spain for his treatment. That proposition, of course, should not surprise anyone since Spain has proven to be a country where the Castro dictatorship’s tentacles can still reach, all thanks to help from the morally bankrupt Zapatero government. In Spain, Sigler Amaya is just an immigrant that can be easily marginalized and hidden away in some hostel in the outskirts of town.
Via Zoé Valdés’ blog, here is the response to the Cardinal’s proposition (my translation):
CARDINAL JAIME ORTEGA PROPOSES TRAVEL TO SPAIN TO PRISONER OF CONSCIENCE ARIEL SIGLER AMAYA
This Thursday, the 15th of July, Cardinal Jaime Ortega made a phone call to the family members of the prisoner of conscience and recently paroled for health reasons after having served 7 years of a 20-year sentence depriving him of his freedom. The call was to propose a possible exit for him and his family to Spain.
The reply by Ariel Sigler Amaya was that his departure from Cuba to receive medical treatment for his grave state of health was to be to the United States of America, a country that had already given him a humanitarian visa since before his release. The prisoner of conscience possesses all the legal documents necessary to make this trip except for the exit permit, or the “white card,” that the Castro dictatorship has refused to provide him without any logical justification.
In the U.S., all the arrangements have been made to receive Ariel Sigler Amaya at the Miami International Airport, which has everything prepared to receive him and attend to his delicate condition. In addition, in Miami Ariel Sigler Amaya is counting on his representative and brother, Miguel Sigler Amaya, who has taken on a tireless campaign to save his life with the consistent support of various organizations and independent personalities such as State Representatives, Mayors, and Congressmen.
To conclude: Ariel Sigler Amaya and all his family maintain their pledge that if by Monday, July 19th, Ariel has not been provided with his exit permit so he can receive medical treatment in the United Sates, all of them shall begin a hunger strike in a public place.
Report by: Miguel Sigler Amaya
A hunger strike: those words must be striking fear into the hearts (for lack of a better term) of the Castro regime, the Spanish government, and the good Cardinal himself. Just when they thought the heat was off and they had gotten all those pesky dissidents under control by shipping them off to a sympathetic ally, here comes another one threatening to expose their vileness and insidiousness.
The battle is not over, my friends; it has just begun.
