Hard-‘workin, God-‘fearin, Toby-Keith ‘listenin U.S. farmers desperately need new Latin American markets for the products they wrest from our heartland with the sweat of their brow! But intransigent hotheads allied with powerful political figures who wallow in lobbying dollars keep conspiring against our farmers!
The new Bill (for lifting trade sanctions against Colombia) faces stiff opposition from intransigent interests mired in archaic prejudices. A clique of cantankerous, well-heeled and politically powerful interests remain oblivious to the national interest.
Let’s hope their zealotry, intransigence and apparently incurable block-headedness are finally foiled!
It’s high time these hotheads got with the national program. They need to shed their petty obsessions with the past and start assessing the national interest soberly and in light of current developments, not stale policies enacted in the heat of hysteria years ago. Entire story below:
At the Doral offices of Florida, Sen. George LeMieux and state and federal representatives echoed the need to pass a Colombian Free Trade Agreement, which has languished amid concerns over the nation’s human rights record. “It’s an insult to our friends that four years after the signing of that agreement it has not yet been ratified by Congress,” LeMieux said. He also called on the Obama administration to make good on its pledge and bring it to a vote soon.
Colombia is already one of the United State’s top trading partners and LeMieux said the deal would be a $2 billion boost to the U.S. economy.
