Memories of Mariel

When most people hear the word “Mariel,” they think of the boat-lift that took place thirty years ago. Mariel, however, is a town with a history that goes back beyond the refugee exodus of 1980, and beyond the 1959 revolution that plunged the island nation into a dark nightmare it has yet to awaken from.
