Miriam Celaya on her blog, sin EVAsión:
It is a whispered secret that in spite of the official spokespeople that spend their time — like spiteful lovers — reviling the “eternal enemy of the people,” all of the hopes of the Cuban elite manifest themselves in the Empire: I hate you, my love.

Great quote but it’s true not only of the spokespeople, it’s true of cagastro himself. I’ve always contended that fidel’s hatred for the US is rooted in his love for it. He wishes he had been born in what he considers to be a “great” country and laments the fact that he could only lead a country like Cuba for which he has disdain. So he has decided that he can only gain the notoriety he wants by opposing it.
