Female Cuban dissident assaulted and arrested by Castro State Security

Iris Tamara Pérez Aguilera, a peaceful member of the opposition in Cuba was assaulted and arrested by five male members of Castro State Security. Video of the attack on this woman shows her immense courage as she screams “Down with Fidel” while five men much larger than her violently apprehend her and force her into the back of a police car. Pérez Aguilera and five other dissidents, who were also arrested, were on their way to visit Alejandrina Garcia de la Riva, the wife of Cuban prisoner of conscience, Diosdado Gonzalez Marrero.

The names of the other five dissidents arrested along with Pérez Aguilera are Idania Yanes Contreras, Alcides Rivera Rodríguez, Donaida Pérez Paseiro, an Alexis Oms. The six opposition members were held by State Security for two hours before being driven to another town far from their homes and left without any transportation or way to get back home.

The Castro dictatorship is fearful of anyone who challenges their stranglehold on power, and they will mete out a beating to anyone, whether male or female, who dares to confront them. Cuba’s women, however, are a courageous part of the opposition, and they will not back down from the regime, as this video from Sara Martha Fonseca Quevedo clearly illustrates.
