Punt de Vista is reporting that Leonard Weinglass, the recently deceased leftist attorney who defended the “Cuban 5” and was beloved by the Castro dictatorship refused treatment in a Cuban hospital.
Attorney for the Five preferred a hospital in the Bronx to one in Cuba
The American attorney for the Five who recently passed away, Leonard Weinglass, preferred to be treated in a Bronx, New York hospital instead of a Cuban hospital, according to the president of the Popular Cuban Assemby in a speech he gave a few days ago in honor of Weinglass. Apparently, the illness that took his life was diagnosed in Havana, and Cuban doctors recommended that he have “urgent” surgery. However, according to Alarcon, Weinglass insisted on going to New York: “He didn’t go to New York to die in one of those big hospitals with advanced medical equipment, where only middle class an above people go, like attorneys. He went to a classic hospital in the Bronx, where the black people go, the Puerto Ricans, and he was extremely happy when he told us that he was going into the Montefiori Medical Center.”
According to Alarcon, Weinglass told him he had a very important meeting in New York as an excuse for not staying in Cuba.
