Cuba is the next great Gay destination

It is amazing to me how a community that is deservedly so sensitive to prejudice and persecution can ignore one of the most brutal and murderous persecutors of the gay community in recent history:

Cuba – The Next Great Gay Travel Destination?

A new revolution is quietly brewing in Havana, Cuba which could make it the next great gay travel destination. Only two hours from Atlanta, the gay scene in Havana is beginning to sizzle after years of repression. Raul Castro’s daughter, Mariela, has even participated in a gay rights march and Brokeback Mountain has been seen on government television.

While gay life is still largely underground, one of the most amazing scenes occurs every night in Havana starting at about 11:00 pm where La Rampa Street and the Malecon, an ocean front walk, intersect. On weekends you’ll see hundreds of guys strolling, chatting, and playing guitars all night until the sun rises. Talk to the right people and you’ll get an invitation to one of the private home parties that pop up in different locations throughout the week.

  1. If it’s marketed well enough and the price is right, the exotic novelty element will trump historical abuse and current hypocrisy. Why should gays be any better than all those “latins,” who are STILL pro-Castro despite all the death, suffering and destruction Castro, Inc. has promoted for decades in Latin America? Listen, if you promise people a good time for a good price, plenty will go for it regardless of moral issues. It’s the same as foreign business people who know the Cuban work force is glorified slave labor, but if a profit can be turned in Cuba, plenty such businessmen WILL go for it anyway. As I keep saying, forget the kindness of strangers. Cubans can either fix their own mess or forget it.

  2. Asombra made a very valid point. Why should gays be any different than all of those Latin Americans that suffered thanks to castro and still go to Cuba and still defend the “revolution?” Las Guerillas, anyone? Or the Spanish government that blindly support castro even though thousands of Spaniards lost everything they worked so hard to built in Cuba when castro took over and confiscated their properties?

People are only interested in having fun. Cuba is a poverty-stricken country and people in poverty-stricken countries often survive by selling their bodies. So, this is to be expected. The castro’s have no scruples; all that they want to do is stay in power at all cost. If Cuba has to become a bad copy of what it was [allegedly] pre-1959, so be it. Cuba will become a floating bordello. It doesn’t matter that castro justified his “revolution” on cleaning up that so-called bordello. The important thing is survival. The family dynasty must survive at all cost.

Besides, the castro’s are painfully aware that their PR people in the USA [read this as the Cuba experts: people like Phil Peters, Julia Sweig, etc..] will contort themselves into pretzels in order to justify the regime even though it is no longer justifiable [not that it ever was, but at least before it had a patina of legitimacy]. Now, all the smoke as been sucked out and all of the mirrors are broken. The truth is out in the open light. Ugly and putrid.

But, as long as we the exiles do not start a counter campaign to reveal the truth [newspaper articles, documentaries, paid advertisements, think tanks, etc..], Mariela’s propaganda will continue to seep into the minds of the American people and brainwash them.

Cuba is going to become a gay destination. Mark my word. Without opposition to stop the misinformation, it’s a done deal. The die is cast.
