Another transformational ‘reform’ by the dictatorship of Raul Castro

The Cuban dictatorship of Raul Castro has announced another transformational reform that is sure to send shock waves throughout the island. In a demonstration that the repressive and murderous regime is willing to embrace “change,” Cubans will now be allowed to rent out banquet halls.

Via Penúltimos Días (my translation):

Individuals will be allowed to rent out government owned halls

I have received news from Havana of the latest grand innovation in regards to the “economic reforms”: individuals will be allowed to rent government owned properties. And the selection is extensive: at the beaches, busy corners, stores, restaurants, and they are even telling me that TECUN (an old store from the CIMEX network) is available.

Who knows of this? Practically no one. It is a mystery who will rent them and when they will start renting them. The contact list of who to call to rent these places, some of which are in hotels and beaches, or in the historic meeting halls, is also a mystery.

My sources tell me that there is a large and eager group looking for the “contacts” in the higher echelons of power to be able to have access to these locales once they become available. And of course, the usual: the locales will be rented by the children of… the major, or the colonel…, etc. And there will be some naming rights, too: this store belongs to actor X, but in reality it is owned by official Y. Prepare yourselves for what is coming.

  1. wrong Alberto,
It will be rented by the Miami Cubans who will pay for lavish “necessary” 15th birthday parties for their “starving” relatives. They will even bring the party favors in with them on their jaunts to the “oppresive” land that they needed to escape from.

  2. And don’t think those who came up with this “reform” didn’t figure on hall rentals being paid in real money by Cubans abroad. And pay they will.
