Thought of the day

From an editorial in Spain’s ELPAIS.COM regarding the murder of Wilmar Villar Mendoza (my translation):

The death of Wilman Villar Mendoza following 50 days of a hunger strike demonstrates that there are Cuban dissidents determined to resist iniquity all the way to the limit, but it also demonstrates that the Castro regime is incapable of making any concession that can be interpreted as weakness. It resists while entrenched in a present that becomes eternal  precisely because they have no future whatsoever. The one who did have a future, who could embrace the hope of one day living in another Cuba, in liberty, was Mendoza, 31 years old and the father of two girls. But his jailers preferred to let him die.
