Cuba Nostalgia 2013 is here! The festivities start tomorrow and run through the weekend. And believe it or not, we were able to set up the Babalú pavilion without me shedding one single drop of blood! That must be a good omen.
As you all know, this year we celebrate Babalú’s 10th Anniversary and we have some very special guests scheduled to join us this year. So, if you live in the South Florida area, head on over to Cuba Nostalgia at Tamiami Park and stop by the the Babalú booth and say hello!
Here’s the confirmed lineup:
Our good friend Silvio Canto, Jr. will be joining us this year all the way from Texas to chat with our readers and sign copies of his new book, Cubanos in Wisconsin. Make sure you bring your copy of the book, purchase a copy HERE, or you can buy a copy at our booth and have Silvio sign it for you. (Appearing Saturday and Sunday)
We will also have the pleasure of having the extremely talented cartoonist Omar Santana spending time with us this year at Cuba Nostalgia. Omar’s cartoons can be seen in various publications and he will be displaying his unique and intriguing work at the Babalú booth. (Appearing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
Joining us again this year is another extremely talented cartoonist, our good friend Garrincha, whose cartoons are published in various newspapers and have graced many pages of Babalú. (Appearing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
Just received confirmation that Miami band Electric Piqute will be joining us at Cuba Nostalgia this year as well! You can download their latest single, En la Playa Giron, at iTunes. Electric Piquete will be performing on Sunday, May 19th at 2:00 pm at the Babalú booth.
George Utset from The Real Cuba and his new project, Uncensored Websites for Cuba, will be on hand to demonstrate this newest innovation that provides news and information for internet-starved Cubans on the island. Accompanying George will be recently exiled prominent Cuban dissidents Luis Felipe Rojas and Dr. Darsi Ferrer. (Appearing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
Our good friend Viviam Maria, host of the WDNA radio program Cubaneando (every Wednesday from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm – available on live stream) will be joining us once again at the Babalú booth. Make sure to stop by and say hello. (Appearing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
