The White House has announced that it will have as their guest at the State of the Union address on January 20, 2015, Alan Gross.
We can be certain that President Obama will mention his new Cuba opening as a major accomplishment of his administration. He will brag about how this initiative will bring the “audacity of hope” to the Cuban people.
But the majority of Cuban-Americans from the Historic Exile (1959-1979) are on a war path with the President. In fact, some (myself included), consider the new opening as a Second Bay of Pigs. It represents a betrayal to the aspirations of the free world to restore freedom and democracy to Cuba.
And to represent those freedom-loving Cuban-Americans, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) will have as his guest at the president’s address Rosa María Payá, the daughter of Oswaldo Payá, a prominent dissident who died in an automobile accident in 2012 that she, and others around the world, allege was caused by Castro government officials.
And, now, you know why many Cuban-Americans look up to Senator Marco Rubio. He’s got their backs!
And House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) just announced that he will have as his guest on Tuesday Cuban, human-rights dissident Antuñez and his wife Iris. Antuñez spent more than 17 years in a Cuban jail for proclaiming that communism was an error and a dystopia.
