More than 60 Ladies in White violently arrested this past Sunday in Cuba

Obama may be officially gone, but his engagement and embrace of Cuba’s brutally repressive apartheid dictatorship continues to bear its rancid fruit. This past Sunday, more than 60 Ladies in White were arrested by Castro State Security as they tried to attend church services and carry out their weekly peaceful protest march.

Diario de Cuba has the report (my translation):

According to information provided to DIARIO DE CUBA by sources in the internal dissidence, more than 60 Ladies in White were arrested this Sunday in Havana, Matanzas, Santa Clara, and Ciego de Avila.

In Havana, “23 Ladies in White were arrested, among them Berta Soler along wih her husband, former political prisoner Angel Moya,” said Lady in White Daisy Artiles to DDC.

“Around two in the afternoon, they parked a bus halfway up the block so our camera would not pick it up. Later, when the Ladies in White and Moya came out, they were arrested. Berta was taken away in a patrol car while Moya and the other women were taken in the bus,” said Artiles.

Lady in White Leticia Ramos told DDC that in Matanzas, “from a group of 40 Ladies in White, only three were able to make it to Mass. The rest were arrested the moment they left their homes and taken to local police stations. The rest were transported outside their cities, such as Colon and Jovellanos, and dumped there. Others were taken back to their homes.”

According to Artiles, in Santa Clara there were “two Ladies in White arrested and in Ciego de Avila one was arrested and beaten by agents of the PNR (National Revolutionary Police).”
