Jodie Foster spends a ‘beautiful family evening’ in Havana with Mariela Castro, daughter of Cuba’s murderous apartheid dictator

In case we had forgotten how obtuse and disconnected from reality Hollywood really is, actress Jodie Foster has stepped up to remind us. During a recent visit to Cuba, the American actress enjoyed a “beautiful family evening” in Havana with Mariela Castro, the daughter of Cuba’s apartheid dictator Raul Castro.

This is the same dictator who rounded up gay Cubans and put them in concentration camps. He is also the same dictator who jails gay activists who refuse to toe the communist party line. And yes, Raul Castro is the very same dictator who viciously oppresses the Ladies in White, physically and sexually assaulting the female dissidents, imprisoning them, and murdering them.

US actress Jodie Foster spent a “lovely family evening” in Havana with Mariela Castro, with whom she talked about the work of the National Center for Sexual Education (Cenesex) that Mariela heads, reported dpa.

“It was a pleasant surprise” that Foster “showed interest in learning about our work at Cenesex during her private visit to the island with her wife Alexandra Hedison and their sons Charles and Kit, with whom we had a nice family evening,” wrote the daughter of President Raul Castro on her Facebook page.

In the published images, Mariela Castro and Jodie Foster appear together with their families, although it is not specified when the photographs were taken or the exact place of the meeting.

In 2013, the US actress publicly acknowledged her sexual choice and a year later married the photographer Hedison.

The actress in films including “Taxi driver” and “The Silence of the Lambs” is on a private visit to the island, during which she went to institutions like Acosta Danza, where she witnessed a rehearsal of the company founded by the Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta.

Mariela Castro is an active advocate for the rights of the homosexual community on the island. The work of Cenesex has received recognition with the prize “Join the Commitment to Gender Equality and Nonviolence”, granted by the United Nations System in Cuba.

However, Castro has received criticism from part of the LGBT community in Cuba for not supporting same-sex marriage.  “We don’t like to copy anyone,” Mariela Castro said recently at a conference in Mexico, as she discussed why Cuba has yet to extend marriage rights to same-sex couples. “We want to be creative and look for what truly fits into the possibility of social acceptance and our reality,” she explained.

  1. But don’t you see? Foster had to do this–it was practically compulsory. She couldn’t possibly “do Cuba” like Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and Paris Hilton. She’s a very serious person (like, you know, deep), seriously committed to serious stuff (as long as it’s duly “correct,” naturally). Maybe she’s not as intellectual as Sartre and his concubine Simone de Beauvoir, who were among the first foreign swine, I mean celebrities, to “do” Castrogonia (and drool over “Che”), but she’s still in that ballpark–and don’t you forget it. Heaven forbid people just took her for a mere actress (especially now that her career is not exactly sizzling). I mean, she’s now an official poster person for the whole gay enchilada, so she’s got an image to think about. You think she was going to get back from Havana without something like this to show for herself? And besides, Mariela was so eager and delighted to pose with her, I mean meet her. In other words, this was virtually inevitable.

  2. Still, from the standpoint of an observer studying alien life forms, this behavior, albeit repulsive, is still fascinating. The photo is very eloquent, however unintentionally. Forget the Castronoids, whose nature and MO are excruciatingly familiar and exhaustively documented. Focus on the visitors, who happen to look like a bunch of malnourished and bloodless hicks (including the star, who looks like shit). Did the happy couple, like, buy those albino twins from some catalog? Sorry; I digress. Look at the expressions on Foster and the wife. Priceless. We’re not just talking fatuous and woefully ignorant; I think we’re also talking self-satisfied and self-consciously “progressive,” not to mention radically chic. The best conceivable explanation is that Foster is painfully, uh, limited. Really, really limited. Lord have mercy.

  3. As for the risibly gauche (no pun intended) creature between what I take to be Mariela’s daughter and one of the two albinos, I assume he’s her husband–but then again, maybe he’s some Latrine laborer who does her yard and decided to photo bomb the thing. Sheesh.

  4. I presume the little Ricky Martin-ish person at far right is Mariela’s son. So stylish. And I can’t stop staring at how unpleasantly anorexic Foster and the wife look. Ugh.
