Never Forget: 23rd anniversary of the Castro regime’s ’13 de Marzo’ Tugboat Massacre

On that fateful Wednesday morning of July 13, 1994, 37 Cuban men, women, and children attempted to escape the tyranny and slavery of Cuba’s Castro dictatorship. On board a tugboat named “13 de Marzo” they had commandeered for their daring escape, they were only able to get seven miles from the Cuban shore before being intercepted by Cuban military vessels. Seven miles was not that far from the life of misery they were trying to leave behind, but it was far enough that the only ones who heard their screams of horror and pain before being swallowed up by the sea were themselves and their executioners.

Despite the now 23-year-long attempt by the Castro regime to silence their screams and in spite of the complicity of the  rest of the world’s powers in covering up this heinous crime, their screams for help and mercy can still be heard. The screams of those ten children and 27 adults has joined the screams of tens of thousands of others who have been viciously murdered by the Castro regime.

Those screams will continue, haunting us day and night, until their executioners and the Castros are finally brought to justice.

Unfortunately, today also marks 23 years since neither the Castro family nor any other members of their murderous dictatorship has been brought to justice — let alone indicted in an international court — for this horrific crime. We have all now lived through 23 years of the world standing idly by and pretending these innocent victims never existed, never breathed, never yearned for freedom, and therefore were never murdered by Castro soldiers 7 miles off the coast of Cuba.

Today we remember the victims of the “13 de Marzo” Tugboat Massacre. We will continue honoring these martyrs for generations, and long after their executioners are eventually brought to justice.

  1. Yes, this is a perfect example of the long-established double standard applied to all things Cuba by the outside world, including the media, foreign governments and international bodies like the UN, but this is only the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. There has been so much criminal abuse so often for so long that much if not most of it will never be brought forward officially and certainly never see justice in this world. The only ones who can improve the situation somewhat are Cubans themselves in a future free Cuba, if they have the will to do so, because the rest of the world is not only completely uninterested but complicit with the guilty parties one way or another, even if it is indirectly or by omission.
