Oswaldo Payá and Harold Cepero

It was six years ago today, on July 22, 2012, when Oswaldo Payá and Harold Cepero were assassinated by Cuban State Security agents. On this day, the names of these two courageous and peaceful human rights activists were added to the constantly growing list of Cuban martyrs that spans nearly six decades. Their “crime” was to demand human rights for all Cubans, which the oppressive Castro dictatorship views as a challenge to their tyranny. For that “crime,” they paid with their lives.

Let us all take a moment and honor the memory of Oswaldo and Harold on yet another anniversary of their ultimate sacrifice for fellow Cubans and the ongoing struggle for freedom and liberty on the island.

We will continue to celebrate and honor the struggle for freedom in Cuba and the sacrifice made by these brave men. Not only will we never forget Payá and Cepero for their courage and bravery, we will never forget the perpetrators of the cowardly act that took their lives.

Eventually, they will face justice for their heinous crimes.
