Happy 79th birthday to Joe Azcue

We remember Joe Azcue of Cienfuegos, Cuba. He is part of a handful of major leaguers who played in the pre-Castro professional league and later in the majors.

Azcue broke with Reds in ’60 and developed a reputation as a good catcher with a strong throwing arm.  He was named to the 1968 AL All Star team.  His teammate, fellow Cuban Luis Tiant, started that game for the AL.

Joe hit .252 in 909 games.  His best years were with the Indians.
