For ten years now, and especially since Obama’s “rapprochement” with the Castro-Family-Crime-and-Terror-Sponsoring-Syndicate ( habitually and obscenely mislabeled “Cuba” by the Fake News Media) this same Fake News Media–in flagrant cahoots with Castro’s (unregistered hence lawbreaking U.S.-based agents and lobbyists) have been regaling us with news of “RAUL THE PRAGMATIC FREE-MARKET REFORMER! blah…blah!”….About how the number of “SELF-EMPLOYED CUBANS IS EXPLODING!!!”…blah…blah…
Well at last count–and as dutifully reported by the Fake News media– Raul Castro’s much-trumpeted “economic opening!” “privatization!” “reforms!” blah…blah has resulted in about half-a-million Cubans employed in tiny and macro-economically inconsequential private buisnesses. That’s out of a Cuban population of 11,300,000. This translates into about 4.4 per cent of Cubans.
Well, from late 1959 till early 1965 fanatical Marxist and Stalin, Mao and Kim Il Sung idolizer Che Guevara served variously as Cuba’s Minister of National Bank and later as Minister of Industries. During that period– and up till 1968– Soviet-occupied Cuba had:
55,636 small businesses: including 11,878 grocery stores (bodegas), 3,130 butchers, 3,198 bars, 8,101 food establishments (restaurants, friterías, cafeterias, etc), 6,653 laundries, 3,643 barbers, 1,188 shoe repairs, 4,544 auto mechanics, 1,598 artisans, 3,345 carpenters.
Some of these Mom & Pop places probably employed extended families (see the large number of groceries, restaurants) some were probably one-man operations (see smaller number of carpenters, mechanics.) So let’s be conservative and assign an average of 5 Cuban employees to each of these 55,636 small businessess.
Well– given that Cuba’s population at the time was about 7,000,000–that means that with FANATICAL MARXIST Che Guevara directing most of Cuba’s economy, about 4.7 per cent of the Cuban population was involved in free-enterprise–which is a higher percentage than under “free-market reformer” Raul Castro.
