Cuban State Security releases independent artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara from prison

On the same day Amnesty International declared him a “prisoner of conscience,” the socialist Castro dictatorship finally released independent artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara from prison, where he had been held on false charges since March 1st.

Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara released by the regime

Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara, an artist and a member of the opposition to the Cuban regime, was released from prison close to midnight on Friday.

A post on Facebook by his girlfriend Claudia Genlui Hidalgo confirmed the young artist had been released from custody by government authorities.

The artist was arrested on March 1st and accused of defacing patriotic symbols and destroying public property. His actual judicial status is currently unknown since he had been scheduled for a summary trial on March 11, but that was postponed until further notice by the government.
