Today, August 23rd, we celebrate National Cuban Sandwich Day. Without a doubt (to Cubans at least), the Cuban Sandwich is the most perfect and most glorious sandwich ever created. It is often imitated by others trying to replicate its unique taste and texture, but none have been successful. In other disturbing cases, a heresy is committed when they add salami and mayo. But the classic Cuban Sandwich (as served in South Florida and parts of New Jersey) is inimitable.
Today we say thank you to the inventor of the classic Cuban Sandwich, whoever you are, and we thank you for this incredible and life-changing contribution to gastronomy.
