  1. I hate the “L” word. Don’t ever use it. It’s a creation of the chicanos and it only benefits them. You see, up to the early 1970s all Hispanics were catagorized by their nation of ancestry. This, however, was harming the image of the chicanos. Every time that a chicano committed a crime, the local police department would identify the Mexican-American as a Mexican and if the newspapers reported the crime, they would write, “Mexican.” In order to clean their image [at the expense of every other Hispanic] the Mexicans successfully [through a Mexican American congressman] passed legislation that the Census Department put all Hispanics under the catch-all group “Hispanic”. All other government agencies followed suit. Hence forth, all criminals went from being Mexican Americans to Hispanics a catagory that we as Cuban Americans were also thrown into. But as Chicanos become increasingly bold and agressive, they started asking that “Hispanic” be changed to “Latino” because Hispanic [according to them] included Spain, a country they hate. Little does it matter that “Latino” in its original and correct meaning includes Italy, Spain, Portugal, France and even Romania. Not according to Chicanos [and they are setting the rules through their organizations]. To them “Latino” is a racial word. You see, they’ve created a racial catagory [without asking us what we think about it] and we have been dragged into it. So, even if you like many Cubans are the direct descendant of Galicians or Asturians, you now fall into the brown catagory.

The term “Latino” has helped chicanos. Now they can claim [like they always are claiming] that they speak for the 50,000,000 “Latinos” that live in the USA. This has expanded their political numbers from only Mexican Americans out West to Cubans and Puerto Ricans and others in the East Coast. It has been a win-win for chicanos and an absolute lost for us. We have inherited their social problems over night. We are now included in a group with a high crime rate, a low graduation rate, a high-out-of-wedlock birth rate and a low per captia income. In other words, a group that’s “down-and-brown.”

    • And of course, the white usual suspects love it, because it suits their agenda. If there’s anybody I do NOT want deciding or determining ANY thing for me or about me it’s a Mexican–and the worst Mexicans are not the brown ones but the white ones who run that country and are most responsible for its eternal and VERY deep dysfunction–to put it much more elegantly than it deserves.
