Independent artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara arrested once again

Independent artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara, the leader of the San Isidro Movement, was arrested on Saturday afternoon and taken to the Cuba and Chacon Police Station in Old Havana, reported several activists on social media from the Cuban capital.

“Luis Manuel Otero arrested,” wrote art historian Anamely Ramos Gonzalez on her Facebook page. “They took him from his own home. Enough with the abuse already! He was inside his house. How much longer are they going to continue with the abuse?” said independent journalist Maria Matienzo.

According to a post by professor Omara Ruiz Urquiola, “Anamely was kicked out of the police station and it’s past 7 PM. She’s refusing to leave!”

Another post by scientist Oscar Casanella less than 10 minutes later said Ramos Gonzalez had also been arrested.

“To the Cuban dictatorship, we demand you immediately release Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara and Anamely Ramos,” wrote Casanella on Facebook. “We suspect she was also arrested since she is not answering her phone.”

Otero Alcantara was arrested on Tuesday and detained for several hours when he went out to the street in front of his home in a protest organized by the “Sunflower Revolution” campaign.
