Cuban activist Carolina Barrero was arrested after delivering a letter to the National Assembly requesting to dismiss Cuban Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso.
The art historian Carolina Barrero was arrested this February 4, 2021 at 9 in the morning. State Security detained her on a patrol in a violent manner.
On Wednesday the activist had delivered a letter from the 27N Movement to the National Assembly of Cuba in which she requested the dismissal of Cuban Minister Alpidio Alonso.
“This morning we have registered before the National Assembly of People’s Power a legal resource to begin the process of Revocation of the Mandate of Deputy Alpidio Alonso Grau, current Minister of Culture. The motion has been signed by artists, intellectuals, journalists, members from civil society and members of 27N, “Carolina said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
“As citizens of the Republic of Cuba we believe in the peaceful vindication of our rights and we emphatically condemn any manifestation of violence, in particular any manifestation of government violence promoted from the institutions and carried out by public officials,” the curator pointed out on Facebook on Wednesday.
According to the independent journalist Luz Escobar, the artist Tania Bruguera was talking on the phone with Carolina Barrero when she was detained by the police. She bruguera narrates that she was able to hear how they took Carolina’s mobile phone and put her inside the patrol.
Her relatives and friends have no information on her whereabouts, or on her physical situation.
