State security arresting independent journalists and women who dare challenge the communist dictatorship is not a bug of Cuba’s socialist revolution, it’s a feature.
Journalist Camila Acosta arrested twice in a single afternoon
Cuban police detain Cuibanet journalist Camila Acosta twice on Monday afternoon.
The journalist said authorities did not give her a reason for the arrests and during the second detention, was left in a car that drove around the area of Vedado.
“They were just waiting for their orders from State Security,” said Acosta.
Award-winning author Angel Santiesteban told Cubanet by phone that during the first arrest that afternoon, they kicked her out of the car not even 100 meters from where they picked her up.
Both of them were on their way to visit friends and were stopped by a police car in front of the U.S. embassy in Havana, reported Cubanet.
“They have spent the last few days looking for her, but it wasn’t terror that kept her from leaving the house, but because she had no specific place to go during that time,” said Santiesteban.
