European Union funds intended for Cuba’s ‘civil society’ go straight to repressive government

Millions of Euros from the European Union intended for Cuba’s “civil society” — a.k.a. dissidents — have been going straight into the coffers of Castro, Inc. The EU knows this is happening, and in fact may be doing this deliberately, hoping no one will notice.

The human rights organization Cuban Prisoners Defenders, however, discovered this particular sleight of hand trick and has now exposed it.

Cuba’s “civil society”

Loosely translated from Diario de Cuba

The European Union (EU) has provided funds to the Government of Cuba through its delegation in Havana, falsely presenting them as “contributions to civil society,” as revealed by Cuban Prisoners Defenders in an investigation published this Monday.

It is about financing projects that are carried out by organizations and institutions controlled by the Cuban regime and that respond to policies drawn up by the authorities.

CPD analyzed the document “European Union-Cuba Cooperation-Contributing to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, published by the EU Delegation in Cuba, according to which 8% of the Cuba-EU Cooperation goes to “society civil”.

The NGO points out that, in particular, the European Union has a budget item called “Thematic Program for Civil Society Organizations and Local Authorities” in Cuba amounting to 2,717,000 euros.

“The conclusion is irrefutable: not a single euro of those analyzed on the basis of the beneficiaries mentioned in the document of the EU delegation has been delivered by the European Union to civil society. In an incomprehensible way, all the analyzed projects are endowments of currencies (euros) to state companies of the Government of Cuba, but which the EU delegation in Cuba officially communicates as ‘civil society’ in numerous sources, “said CPD.

  1. If the EU doesn’t know it’s being swindled, it must be staffed by fools, but I expect it knows and is playing dumb. It has always been far more interested in “getting along” with Castro, Inc. than in helping Cubans.
