Cuba: The island of utopia

A poem by Alexis Romay with an illustration by Omar Santana (my translation) in Belascoaín y Neptuno:

Sign: “We are happy here”

Run away from the utopias.
This is good advice
coming from a Cuban
who the major part of his days
have been cold mornings
in a distant land
with a stabbing uneasiness.
Or stay — it’s a dilemma —
but don’t believe in the system
imposed upon you by the Comandante.
