Anti-Communist Hero/Freedom-Fighter/Political Prisoner (for over THREE TIMES as long as was Alexander Solzhenitsyn) Roberto Martin-Perez– who called out Fidel Castro and Che Guevara as COMMUNISTS from day one, who put his life on the line to overthrow them when these KGB assets were universally hailed as “liberators!”, who suffered decades of unspeakable tortures in KGB-designed dungeons for his courageous defiance, who suffered defamations from the Mainstream Media as a “TERRORIST!”–dies in Miami (Mainstream Media silent.)

Mega-hero and anti-communist freedom-fighter Roberto Martin-Perez–who probably qualified as one of the longest-suffering political prisoners on earth (THREE TIMES as long as Solshenytzyn, as long as Nelson Mandela and under infinitely more horrible conditions) passed away this week in Miami as reported by his wife radio mega-star Ninoska, and earlier translated here at Babalu Blog;:

“He was one of the first to oppose the regime of Fidel Castro, he spent 28 years in Castro’s prisons as a Plantado, [a defiant political prisoner who rejected indoctrination and compromise with the dictatorship]. He saw his friends die on hunger strikes, fall riddled with bullets before the firing squad, he was hungry, cold, angry and in pain with his brothers. He survived torture, inhuman punishments, lack of medical attention and they never managed to break him down. He never considered himself a victim. When, after an intense international campaign, he was released, General Manuel Noriega, for doing Fidel Castro a favor, sent an official delegation to Cuba to look for him. He told them that he did not accept freedom because there were 200 other prisoners who were in worse condition and the plane returned to Panama without him. It was after several days of the prisoners asking him to come out and advocate for them that he left the prison with the commitment to continue fighting until he was free and he did.”

Mr Martin-Perez helped enormously and selflessly as a source for my books but the details of his freedom-fight are best chronicled in his own superb book linked here.

If “history has absolved” any Cubans it’s ones like Roberto Martin-Perez. Imagine the suffering Cubans (and the world) might have been spared if the plot he and a few Cuban heroes mounted to overthrow the Castro brothers and Che Guevara in early 1959 would have succeeded. And if anyone merits the title “MACHO” it’s again Roberto Martin- Perez.

Of course, you’d never know any of this from the mainstream media. In fact the venerable Huffington Post and Slate magazine once denounced Martin-Perez as a “terrorist!”………Equating him with cowardly bomb-planter Bill Ayres!

  1. “Go ahead and shoot me!” Not exactly what international leftist idol Che Guevara would have said, or what he did say in similar circumstances, but hey, who cares? Not the usual suspects, that’s for damn sure.

  2. The problem, or a big part of it, is that there were too many Cubans like Fidel Castro, only to a lesser degree, and not enough Cubans of the opposite sort. Just like the human body can only tolerate so much toxicity before it fails, the same is true of a country–it can only handle so many shitty people before it falls.
