Miami’s iconic Cuban restaurant Fritas Domino closes its doors forever

Some sad news for all the Cuban fritas lovers in South Florida: the iconic Fritas Domino on 8th street has closed its doors forever. Fritas Domino was one of my favorite places for Cuban fritas for as long as I can remember. In fact, I believe it was the restaurant where as a small child I first got to taste the mouthwatering and magnificent frita, the Cuban version of a hamburger.

Luckily, there’s still other places in Miami where you can get a good frita, but it’s always sad to see one of your favorites and an icon of the Cuban exile community close its doors.

Burger Beast has the report:

Fritas Domino has Closed Permanently

The closing of Little Havana’s Morro Castle in 2017 was a giant blow to Miami’s Frita community. And now, here we are just fours years later and Miami’s original Frita Cubana spot Fritas Domino La Original has closed without any fanfare whatsoever.

Over the last few years, Fritas Domino had fallen on hard times and the pandemic certainly didn’t help them any. I ate there a few times during the last year and we were the only customers on each occasion.

The restaurant along with all of its intellectual property had been on sale since late 2020. I had high hopes that someone would swoop in and save this diamond in the rough. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be.

There is a sign on the door that says “Nueva Administración, La Fragüita Restaurant Coming Soon!” that dashes any hope of saving the place.

Sad.
