Activists Florentino Areas and Dennis Cancino were detained and arrested last week in Nuevitas, Camaguey after delivering a notification of a civic march planed for November 20. The organizers have now moved the date to November 15.

Cancino told Radio Martí that after they were arrested, both were taken to a Interior Ministry safe house in Nuevitas.

During the four hours they were detained, “we were subjected to psychological torture,” said Cancino. He also stated that Florentino Areas was arrested first and that “after they did all that to him,” referring to the threats and the psychological torture, “they came to get me.”
