Cuban opposition activist denounces State Security’s campaign of harassment and threats against her

Small business owner and opposition activist Saily Gonzalez is paying the price for daring to challenge Cuba’s communist dictatorship. This is socialism in action.

Activist Saily Gonzalez denounces harassment by State Security

Villa Clara activist Saily Gonzalez, a member of the Archipielago group, denounced this October 31 the threats and harassment she is receiving from State Security for her work as a member of the opposition.

According to Gonzalez, State Security, an organ of the Cuban State in charge of monitoring dissidents, is trying to discredit her before neighbors and friends with false accusations, which have so far been ineffective thanks to the quickness and transparency in which she has confronted them.

One of the methods used has been to spread false accusations of criminal acts, such as the purchase of illicit food to supply her business, through fake accounts on social media.

Gonzalez is the owner and manager of a business in the town of Santa Clara in the province of Villa Clara, the Cafe Amarillo B&B. She recently closed the business until “the rights to think and speak for all are respected in Cuba.”

Furthermore, employees of her business have been summoned by police and interrogated. Gonzalez says the objective is to intimidate them and try to find “evidence” to charge her with a crime.

The young woman assures that the November 15 march “is going to happen” and made clear her activism for the respect of human rights and freedom will not be deterred by the Cuban regime’s threats.
