Surprise! Cuban dictatorship backs Russian invasion of Ukraine, blames U.S. and NATO for creating this crisis

Well done! Felicidades!

How shocking! What a surprise! NOT! — as Wayne and Garth might say.

As expected, Castrogonia’s leaders have praised their former colonial masters for “defending” themselves in the face of aggression from capitalist-democratic nations.

Castrogonia’s military junta, however, has yet to recognize the independence of the two “republics” ostensibly liberated by Grand Putinia. Chances are that they are waiting for the total conquest of Ukraine, in which case they only need to recognize the absorption of all of that entire nation into the empire of Grand Putinia.

Or maybe they’re just delaying for a while, until Putin answers their request for tanks with which they can conquer South Florida, which, as everyone knows, really belongs to Cuba.

Oye, Trucutú, que te parece si declaramos a el sur de La Florida una provincia independiente de Cuba y le pedimos a Putín que mande sus tanques pa’ allá, pa’ conquistar a todo el territorio entre Cayo Hueso y Diniguór? (Hey, Trucutú, why don’t we declare South Florida an independent Cuban province and ask Putin to send some tanks up that way, to conquer everything between Key West and Disney World?)

The Government of Cuba declared that Russia has the right to defend itself in an official note in which it accused the United States of threatening “regional and international peace” by “imposing the progressive expansion of NATO towards the borders of the Russian Federation” and He was silent on Vladimir Putin’s request to other countries to recognize the independence of the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.

“The United States government has been threatening Russia for weeks and manipulating the international community about the dangers of an ‘imminent massive invasion’ of Ukraine. It has supplied weapons and military technology, has deployed troops in several countries in the region, has applied sanctions unilateral and unfair, and threatened with other reprisals. At the same time, he unleashed an anti-Russian propaganda campaign,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) stated verbatim.

The note, replicated in the official newspaper Granma, devoted two paragraphs to citing statements from the past by General Raúl Castro and current ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the invariable support for the regime’s ally.

“We call on the United States and NATO to seriously and realistically address the well-founded claims for security guarantees of the Russian Federation, which has the right to defend itself,” the MINREX added.

According to the statement, the Government of Cuba “advocates a diplomatic solution through constructive and respectful dialogue” and called “to preserve international peace and security.”
