On Sunday Cuban State Security once again arrested Ladies in White leader Berta Soler and her husband as they attempted to peacefully protest human rights abuses in Cuba. This marks the 11th consecutive Sunday the Ladies in White have been accosted by State Security.
Berta Soler and Angel Moya arbitrarily arrested
Activists on social media denounced the arbitrary arrest of activists Berta Soler Fernandez and Angel Moya Acosta during the morning hours of April 3rd.
Maria Cristina Varona, a member of the Ladies in White Board of Directors, posted the following on Facebook:
“The leader and representative of the Ladies in White, Berta Soler Fernandez, and former political prisoner Angel Moya Acosta, were arrested by uniformed police and State Security agents on April 3, 2022, at 10:40 AM as they left the national headquarters of the Ladies in White. They were going out to demand their right to peacefully protest and for the respect of human rights including the release of political prisoners in Cuba.”
The whereabouts of Soler and Moya are currently unknown.
Hours earlier, the former political prisoner posted on Facebook that this was the 11th Sunday where acts of repression against the Ladies in White are carried out. He published photos of a Ministry of the Interior bus used to transport activists that are arbitrarily arrested.
“The H-40 designation indicates it belongs to that oppressive ministry. Furthermore, that bus is very similar to ones used by the Cuban communist regime’s Department of Jails and Prisons to transport prisoners in Cuba #RevolutionIsRepression,” Moya Acosta declared.
It has been 7 days since the activists were arrested by State Security while they were on their way to church services. It was an arbitrary arrest that has taken place every Sunday since Moya and Soler announced in January their campaign for the release of all political prisoners.
