Derrumbe! Building collapses continue to plague Havana, many more expected

From our Bureau of Socialist Social Justice

One sure thing you can depend on in Cuba is that if your crumbling building gets soaked by a heavy rain it might collapse several days after the rain ends.

Another sure thing is the fact that none of the crumbling buildings that house the Cuban people are ever going to be repaired. So, the 21st century is going to bring about a slow demolition of most of the city, building by building.

Except for the homes of the military junta and their minions, all of whom are aware of the crisis affecting 99 percent of the population they rule with an iron fist Their solution: “Let’s build more luxury apartheid hotels!” This is socialist social justice.

This latest derrumbe has left three families homeless. Add them to the list . . .By 2050 most Cubans will be living in tents and home-made shacks.

Loosely translated from CiberCuba

A building partially collapsed this Wednesday night at the corner of San Lázaro and Genios streets, in Centro Habana, a few blocks from the luxurious Hotel Paseo del Prado.

Disseminated images reveal that the roof of the upper floor of the building collapsed next to one of the walls, which exposed the interior of the house.

The incident is added to other similar events that have occurred in recent days, especially after the heavy rains that have affected the western provinces since the beginning of June.

Havana authorities admitted in a recent government meeting the serious crisis of the housing funds, and described the construction of new homes and the correct maintenance of existing ones as a “debt” to the population of the capital.

  1. No amount of misery and dysfunction is too high a price to pay to keep the “revolution” afloat. There are too many non-Cubans invested in that utterly fake fantasy to lose it. After all, it was never for “the people.”
