Tensions continue to ride high in communist Cuba as the first anniversary of the July 11 nationwide protests approaches and a top leader of the Castro dictatorship suddenly dies. Cuba’s Black Beret Special Forces and National Revolutionary Police shot an adolescent and beat him as he lied on the street bleeding to death.
“Assassins, dictators!”: Cubans in Santa Clara rage against police who shot an adolescent
Among screams of “Assassins, oppressors!” several people confronted police officers and Black Berets in a Santa Clara neighborhood after someone was shot by the agents and beaten while he laid on the street bleeding.
Several videos making the rounds on social media and were shared on the Facebook page of AmericaTeVe reporter Mario Juan Penton. The videos show close to a dozen uniformed police with their guns drawn and police batons in hand before a crowd rebuking them while the adolescent boy lied face down with his clothes soaked in blood on a street corner.
According to Penton, the incident took place in the Condado neighborhood of Villa Clara. In one of the videos, one person could be heard saying the victim had been shot in his own home.
In the middle of all the commotion, several people tried to help the injured adolescent but where beaten back by the uniformed police.
Later, one social media account under the name Yeris Gonzalez, which according to her Facebook profile works at the Santa Clara middle school, lamented the death of 17-year-old Zidan Batista Alvarez, a victim of a police shooting.
